December Daily 12.02.10 - The Second Tree

So, this year I have two Christmas trees.  I put one up in our front dining room.  Kind of as a poor man's substitute for outdoor lights.  I picked up an artificial tree from Lowe's and decided to forgo the fuss of filling it with ornaments.  Instead, I channeled my inner Martha Stewart and made my very own ribbon tree topper.  Well, of course, I first called my good friend Judi.  She's the crafty one in the relationship.  She totally made this super cute shirt for Noah.  How cute is that?!?

Anyway, I gave her a call and asked if she thought I could make this for less than eighty bucks.  She said yes, so THEN I channeled my inner Martha Stewart and headed over to Michaels to take advantage of their Black Friday ribbon sale.  And, I came home and made this.

Pretty cute, if I do say so myself.  I actually needed only about 1/3 of the ribbon I purchased, which came out to about (7) 10 yard bolts of ribbon. Each bolt, I cut into about (4) 7 foot strips.  And, then I tied them ribbon to a small wire wreath hanger that I picked up also.  And, viola... my very own ribbon tree topper.  All and all, it was super easy and way cheaper than 80 bucks.

December Daily 12.01.10 - O Christmas Tree

Ambitious.  Yes, so we'll see how it goes.  I love Christmastime.  It is by far my favorite time of year.  Our tree is decorated and lit, although not all the way to the top.  Am I the only one who didn't know you were supposed to start at the top and work your way down?!?  Noah was very excited about the tree, and he loves all the Santa ornaments.  So far, he has focused on a few favorites near the bottom and luckily they are non-breakable.  So far, he has been pretty good about following the rule, "ornaments stay on the tree."  Here he is ready for bed on the eve of December 1st.  Thanks Grammy for the super cute pajamas!

Happy Thanksgiving

Maybe it's all the non-traditional fried shrimp I ate today or maybe I'm too busy watching the Jets and Bengals try to hit the over. Either way, I'm too lazy to get to a computer and upload our family picture.

So, much to be thankful for this year. Family and friends top the list, and if you're reading this you're probably included. Hoping your day was a happy one.

The Novelty Has Worn Off

Forgive me in advance for this somewhat incoherent post. I am as we speak dusting off the cobwebs from a midmorning nap. You see, this morning, my son decided to start his day at 4:30 AM. 4:30 AM is so very early. However, it's a bit better than a couple of days ago when he gave 2:15 AM shot. Or at least he's not still consistently waking up at 5:15 AM. Thanks again for that daylight savings.

I can't officially say we've tried everything. We've more been following the whatever works plan. Here's what doesn't. Sleeping in our bed. Not going to happen, somehow he crawls between us and can't seem to stop talking. Dean has amazingly been able to fall back asleep to the continuous sound of chatter interspersed with hissing of "quiet mouth." Locking him in his room doesn't work. He alternates between banging on the door and turning on the light and getting to the toys in his closet. Sometimes rocking works, but again he has trouble with quiet mouth and has started to sing along to the songs I hum. If I put him in his bed and walk out, he's climbing out before I even cross the threshold.

The main problem is that no matter how tired he is, he has trouble with settling down enough to lay quiet and fall sleep. And, I'm pretty sure when he was in his crib he'd wake up at night sometimes, but couldn't get out, so just went back to sleep. Now, the minute his eyes open, he's out the door into our room. Forget about the sun being out.

So, I'm tired and frustrated. I thought this transition went so well, and today I'm pulling out all the baby sleep books and flipping to the toddler sections to come up with a bedtime game plan. And, of course it will be fine and eventually, he'll start sleeping through the night and then one day, he'll be a teen and want to sleep until noon. I wonder if I'll feel the urge to wake him up at the crack of dawn or maybe I'll be too tired to care.

To the Thingamajigger

I recently stumbled across The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That on PBS Kids. Noah loves it, and I love Martin Short as the cat. It's a really cute show. Every episode the kids ask their mom if they can go to some random off the wall place. She always says yes, and the kids turn to the cat and say, "She said we can go!" And, the cat jumps up and down and says, "I know. I know." Noah has incorporated this in to his everyday requests. Just this morning he worked this out all by himself, "I want a lollipop. She said we could go... I know. I know." Nice try, buddy, but still no lollipops for breakfast.

Happy Birthday Seth

I can't forget to wish my super cute, super sweet nephew Seth the happiest of eight birthdays.

Eight!  Weren't you just two like five minutes ago?

Or was that four?  I'm not sure, but seriously, how are you eight?!?

 We love you Seffie!

And, we hope you had a super fun laser tag party, and the happiest birthday ever!
