Today, Noah had his first official visit with Dr. D. Back in Houston, I don't take Noah to the doctor very often. One, because he's luckily not sick that often, and two, the whole "it's a virus, not much we can do, see you next time," kind of seems like a waste of our time.
But, this morning Noah woke up running fever, and he wasn't very interested in eating. Both my mom and dad suggested I take him to the doctor, but I didn't listen. Then after nap, Noah was still running fever and had a cough, so I decided I should take him to see Dr. D.
Please note that at this point it was 4:15 in the afternoon. My husband can attest that this may be one of my more aggravating qualities. He is not unaccustomed to getting medical related phone calls in the late afternoon when it is more than likely too late to do anything about it. Well, this is a small town, and we're back door patients at Dr. D's, so my dad (somewhat aggravated because he told me to take Noah at noon) brought Noah and I to the doctor.
If you've ever been a patient of Dr. D, you probably know that he is awesome. I mean, really. He checked Noah in less than three minutes. Found clear ears, clear chest, and a cruddy throat. Sent the nurse in for a shot (aka the Holy trinity), and sent us on our way with a prescription for antibiotics and three lollipops. Noah handled the appointment with minimal fuss, and probably because he didn't really know what was coming, fussed more than cried over the shot.
Now, actually taking the antibiotics and cough syrup is a completely different story. If you've actually made it to the end of this post, any tips on getting your child to take medicine without holding them down and trying to shoot the medicine down their throat is greatly appreciated. If only I had an extra set of hands.
